Attendance
At Burnie High School, we uphold the belief that consistent attendance is a key factor in student success. It is our firm expectation that students attend school each day, barring any exceptional circumstances for which individual arrangements have been discussed with me.
Should a student be unable to attend school, we kindly request that the parent or carer promptly informs the school, providing a reason for the absence. Acceptable reasons include illness, scheduled medical or dental appointments, family bereavement, and participation in state-level sporting events.
We encourage families to plan non-school-related activities, such as driving lessons, family visits, hair appointments, or shopping, outside of regular school hours. Your cooperation in scheduling such activities during non-school time is highly appreciated, as we collectively strive to maintain a culture where every school day holds significant value.
At Burnie High School, we prioritise attendance as a cornerstone of our educational philosophy. We understand that consistent attendance is among the most influential factors contributing to a student's success. Your support in maintaining regular attendance not only aligns with our shared goal of academic achievement but also contributes to fostering a positive and thriving school community.
HeadStart into Physical Sciences
On Monday 20 November twenty-six BHS Grade 10 students will attend Hellyer College for the 2023 HeadStart into Physical Sciences program. This program will involve hands-on activities coordinated by Hellyer College Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences teachers. The program will provide Year 10 students with an insight into the opportunities in this learning area.
Students will be bused to and from the college from Burnie High School and lunch will be provided. School uniform required. We know that the Burnie High School students who have been invited to participate in the HeadStart into Physical Sciences will make the most of this opportunity.
2023 Athletics Carnival
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all students who actively participated in the thrilling events of the Athletics Carnival held on Thursday 16 November and Friday 17 November. Your exemplary behaviour, enthusiastic engagement, and remarkable sportsmanship throughout the two days were truly commendable.
The positive atmosphere created by your collective efforts did not go unnoticed. Numerous visitors to our school took a moment to express their admiration of the way our students conducted themselves. They also praised the seamless organisation and execution of the carnival.
A special commendation goes to our dedicated Health and Physical Education (HPE) staff, led by the outstanding Mr. Kade Munday. Their hard work and commitment played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of the Athletics Carnival. We are immensely proud of their efforts in orchestrating an event that showcases the best of our school's athletic spirit.
A heartfelt thanks also goes to Mr. Joshua Salter, whose professional commentary added an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings throughout the two days. His skilful narration contributed significantly to the overall enjoyment of the carnival. Well done everyone!

The Grade 7 Gaga ball area was officially opened this term with Grade 7 students having access to another space to enjoy break times. Competition was fierce on its first day in action. This will surely be a hit in years to come for future Grade 7 students.
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope you enjoyed school holidays, and are ready for another exciting term.
We all want the best for our children – for their futures to be as bright as possible. Showing up every day to school really matters. It gives your child every chance to learn, grow and find their interests.
This last stretch of the school year can sometimes be tricky. Keep it up, because each day is another chance to:
- be around friends
- learn new things
- find interests
- create dream futures (whatever that may be!).
